Eight Eyes

prompt> a PS1-style mini horror: night, an apartment, spiders crawling across the wallpaper — search the rooms and carry every one out in a glass before your nerves give out

About the game

Night, an old apartment: a hallway, a nursery, a kitchen, a bathroom and a living room. Every room has its own light — a swinging bulb here, a humming tube in the kitchen, a hissing TV in the living room. And spiders crawl over the wallpaper, ceiling and floor. They freeze, then dart, and hide behind the furniture. Your job is to walk the apartment, find every one, trap it under a glass, slide a postcard beneath and carry it out.

If a spider reaches your feet it climbs onto your face — shake it off. The power trips, and you have to reach the fuse box by the front door with only a flashlight. Someone knocks at the door. Children's notes on the walls tell you who lives here.

It looks like 1997: low resolution, wobbling vertices, swimming textures and dithering.

How to play

  1. Desktop: mouse to look (the cursor is captured, Esc pauses), WASD to walk, click to trap the spider in your crosshair.
  2. Phone: joystick bottom-left to walk, the rest of the screen to look, tap a spider to trap it.
  3. The top of the screen shows which rooms still have spiders. The glass reaches a couple of metres — get closer.
  4. A spider on your face: swipe across the screen fast on a phone, shake the mouse or click on a computer.
  5. Power out — walk to the fuse box by the front door and press it. If your nerves max out, it is over.
